ESTATE PLANNING: KEY BENEFITS OF CREATING A TRUST

Estate planning is an essential part of preparing for the future. Oftentimes, the first consideration people think about is to create a will. While wills are important, they only function through a probate court. This requires that the person named in the will as the personal representative petition the probate court to open the estate. As PLDO Trust & Estate Attorney Rebecca M. Murphy explains in this video, probate court procedures can be lengthy and expensive. And, because court records are public records, there is a loss of privacy. However, there is another option one should consider as part of an estate plan, which is and that is creating to create a trust.

As Attorney Murphy describes in this video, creating a trust is a smart alternative to avoid the lengthy probate process and reduce costs, while still providing protections and special provisions for beneficiaries. Depending on your individual or family circumstances, there may be other benefits to creating a trust and other estate planning tools available to you. Attorney Murphy, who focuses her practice on assisting people make informed decisions about their estate plan, has significant experience in all areas of trust and estate planning and administration, Medicaid planning, disability planning, probate administration and trust and estate litigation.
